Kiah Kaye Walsh is a 6-year-old purebred miniature dapple Daschund. She came to us in May 2003. We couldn’t love her more.
We have taught her many tricks, which she will perform for treats. She amuses us with her many peculiarities. For instance, she insists on sleeping in the middle of the bed, between my husband and I, and between the sheet and the bedspread. She loves to burrow in all the different throws we have throughout the house. She plays with toys and has this one duck that is almost bigger than she is. Kiah has a great disposition and tolerates attention well. We cherish the day she came into our lives, and hope she will be with us for a very long time. |

Our Lucky Charm Pet of the Month for March is RAIDER DOTY Raider, who belongs to Misty, lives in Bozeman, Montana. Misty writes to us: “Raider is a 2 year-old Black Lab who was born with hip dysplasia. Since he was born, he has had 5 operations. On top of all his operations, he still smiles and goes as fast as he can. We try and get him out for a walk everyday , but his hips will only allow him to go so far. We carry him up and down steps. He loves the water, and also loves to snuggle under blankets when he comes in from the cold. I think it makes his hips feel better. He is the best pet, and best friend anyone could ask for.” Thanks Misty for submitting Raider as Pet of the Month. He is truly a remarkable dog! |

We’ve never done this before, but we feel that this exceptional dog should be honored as our Pet of the Month posthumously after his many years of service to this country. Our April Pet of the Month is Cabiel, a Belgian Malinois who was born in March of 1992 and passed away earlier this year. Cabiel and his handler Mark would provide detection and patrol support to the Malmstrom AFB community and local law enforcement agencies. When called upon, Cabiel would also provide support to the United States Secret Service, ATF, FBI and other Federal Law Enforcement agencies. His illustrious career took him all over the world. His over seas deployments took him to Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Haiti, Chili, Africa and Kuwait. His US Secret Service Missions sent him all over this country, from California to Florida, and many stops in-between. We are sure that Mark, his wife Elisha (our very own vet technician) and their family will miss him enormously. What a wonderful dog, who served his country and handler well. |

Our June Pet of the Month is another first for us. This is Gus, an 11 year old registered Percheron gelding. Gus lives with Julie and Mike Davis, and is just a wee bit of a horse. He stands 17.2 hands tall, weighs in close to a ton, wears a size 7 shoe, uses a 6 inch bit, and his tack has to be custom made!! He drives, rides, leads, loads, you name it. Mike and Julie acquired Gus in 1999 at the age of 4, out of Ault Colorado. Julie, along with help of some friends, broke him to ride at that time. Since then, Gus has appeared and performed in parades, rodeos, drill teams, charity trail rides ( where he always brought in the most pledges!), grand entries at Frontier Days in Cheyenne Wyo., English Pleasure and Equitation shows. He was even featured in the Percheron News magazine the summer of 2001. Gus has many accomplishments under his belt, or should we say cinch. He excels at just about everything. One of he and Julie’s most memorable moments was his first place win in the Great Falls All Breeds Show last summer, in the Maiden Walk-Trot English/Western Equitation class. Gus is a very willing and accommodating boy. His favorite thing, besides food, is scratches on the neck and any kind of water to splash and play in. Julie and Mike couldn’t ask for a better horse! They love him with all their hearts, as do most people who meet him…. We can see why! |

I am a 2 year old Bengal who lives with my Mom Jan and Dad Mike. I live in the country and really want to explore on my own, but my Mom and Dad know I'm safer being tied outside while they are home. Mom learned the hard way by letting me out on my own and I stayed out til after bedtime! Some other tomcat found me, bit me on the butt, and chased me home. Dad chased him off, butt I ended up with an abscess. Dr. Kirk was very good to me and helped me get better. I still want out on my own but Mom keeps me close for my own safety! I really like to chase anything on a string that swishes back and forth really fast. Mom and I play tag; she'll tickle me and run. Then I'll chase her, catch her leg, and run like crazy. My name Oskar is Swedish for leaping warrior. Mom, who is part Swedish, saw how high I liked to jump, then named me Oskar! I am a brown marbled tabby Bengal. My ancestors are the Asian Leopard Cat and Domestic Tabby Cat. I like to take walks on the leash and ride in the car on Mom's lap. I drink water from the tap, while it is running. Mom tells me my coat feels different than a house cat's coat. She says she's read it feels like a beaver pelt. Well, I gotta go. My two speeds are stop and roar, and I've stopped long enough to tell this story. |

I was born on May 31, 2005. My doggie mommie said I was the runt of the litter, but I sure don't act like it! I moved in with my real mommie when I was 6 weeks old. I have two doggie roommates named Lily and Joe. Lily tries to boss me around because she's older, but I'm bigger then her now, so I try to make the rules. When I was a puppy I went to visit Dr. Smith, and he told me that I have some kidney problems. So, he put me on a special diet. The food tastes yucky, but it's made me feel a lot better. Now I act like a normal doggie. Plus, when my roommates aren't looking I like to sneak some of their food. Don't tell! My mommie takes me for a walk ever morning. It's fun. I like to chase the birds and bunnies, but she doesn't let me very often. She bought me a pool for the backyard, and it's lots of fun. I like to play in there and splash her. I also l like to drink out of the hose. My mommie holds it for me, but sometimes she tries to spray me so I have to watch out. When the pools not out I like to lay on the deck and watch the birdies. They are so noisy. For my first birthday my momie threw me a huge party. She invited all my friends and made me a cake. It was so fun! I got to play in the yard with everyone and show them all the cool spots. My mommie made me wear a stupid pink birthday girl bib. It was emarrassing, but I didn't want to hurt her feelings so I wore it anyway. The doggie cake my mome made was really good. She let me have an extra big piece. Plus, Lily didn't like hers, so I got her piece too! At the end I got to open presents. There were so many toys. I had a hard time deciding which one to play with, so I scattered them all over the floor. My mommie didn't like that very much. She said I was messy and put all of them in the toy basket. As soon as she left the room I pulled all of them out again. I had to play with them mom! So, that's my story. I guess I'm a big girl now, but I still act like a puppy. I can't help it! |

Kona & KC Atkinson Kona and KC are brothers at heart. Kona, the Springer, was born on April 1st, and he is truly my Fool Baby! Even though he is a year older then KC, the Cocker, he acts like the mother hen. He will clean KC's face at least once a day. On a regular basis, KC makes sure he knows who the boss is. He herds his big brother to the car, growling all the way. They are the loves of my life! -Submitted by Sue Atkinson. Thanks Sue! from all of us. |
